Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 27, 2026

Elevated Fishing is built with your privacy as a core principle. The app is designed to work entirely on your device with no accounts, no cloud storage, and no tracking. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Elevated Fishing has no servers of its own. All information you enter into Elevated Fishing — including catch logs, photos, GPS coordinates, and settings — is stored locally on your device. A few features make anonymous requests to outside services (the weather at your catch, the name of the water you're on, and map imagery); these are described under "Weather, Water Body & Map Data" below. Nothing else leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share or back it up.

Device Permissions

The app may request the following permissions, each used solely to enhance your fishing log:

  • Camera — To photograph your catches for logging and measurement.
  • Photos — To attach existing photos, the app opens Android's built-in photo picker. The picker hands over only the photos you select, so the app never asks for access to your whole photo library.
  • Location (GPS) — To tag catches with coordinates for the Catch Map, and to look up the weather and the name of the water body for that catch (see "Weather, Water Body & Map Data" below). Your location is stored only on your device. You can turn off GPS Auto-Capture in Settings.

We ask late, not up front. Nothing is requested when you first open the app. Location is requested at the moment it's actually needed — after the photo step of a new catch (whether you take a photo, pick one, or skip it), not the instant you start one — so you can see what the app does before deciding what it gets. If you've already granted it, nothing is asked again. Opening the Catch Map or tapping "My Location" in the location picker can also ask, because those need your position. Turning off GPS Auto-Capture in Settings stops the ask on the Add Fish screen; the Catch Map and the picker's "My Location" button still need permission when you use them.

You can deny any permission and still use the app. Features that depend on a denied permission will simply be unavailable — a catch saved without location is a normal catch, and you can set its spot yourself on a map at any time.

Weather, Water Body & Map Data

When a catch gets a location (from GPS, a photo, or the map picker), the app sends that catch's coordinates directly to two public services. No Elevated Fishing servers sit in between, and no account, name, or device identifier is attached:

  • National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) — the weather at your catch. If the lookup fails (no signal at the lake), the app retries it in the background for up to about a week after the catch.
  • OpenStreetMap Overpass API (overpass-api.de) — the name of the lake or river you're on, looked up only while the name is still blank (for up to about two weeks after the catch). You can type or clear the name yourself at any time.

A catch saved without a location makes neither request. You can turn off GPS Auto-Capture in Settings.

The Catch Map and the location picker load map imagery from CARTO (street map) and Esri (satellite, hybrid, and topo). As with any online map, those tile requests tell the provider which area of the map you are viewing — never your catch records, photos, or identity. The map software itself ships inside the app and is not downloaded.

Google Play handles subscription status (Play Billing) and the occasional "rate this app" sheet (Play in-app review). Both are handled entirely by Google.

No Accounts or Sign-In

Elevated Fishing does not require or offer user accounts. There is no sign-up, no email collection, and no login. Your data belongs to you and stays on your device.

No App Analytics or Tracking

The app does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking pixels. We do not track how you use the app, what screens you visit, or how often you open it.

Website Analytics

The sections above describe data handling inside the Elevated Fishing app. The marketing website at elevatedfishing.app uses GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count anonymous visits and see which pages, countries, and US states visitors come from. GoatCounter does not set cookies, does not collect personally identifiable information, and does not track visitors across other websites. No data from inside the app is shared with the website or with GoatCounter.

Subscriptions & Payments

Elevated Fishing offers an optional subscription through Google Play, available as a monthly or annual plan. All payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play — we do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or billing address. Your subscription status is verified through Google Play's billing APIs. For details on subscription terms, see our Terms & Conditions.

Data Sharing

Apart from the anonymous weather, water-body and map requests described above, your data leaves your device only when you explicitly send it:

  • Sharing a Catch Highlight card.
  • Sharing a backup from Settings > Backup & Restore > Export Data (an unencrypted ZIP of your entire catch log plus every photo and thumbnail).
  • Sharing a Fish ID diagnostic report via Settings > "Share Last ID Report" (kept on your phone only while the Fish ID Diagnostics setting is on and deleted when it is turned off; it includes the catch's GPS coordinates and the photo's file path, not the photo itself).

Sharing uses your device's built-in share sheet — Elevated Fishing does not control or track what happens after you share. Choosing "Save to Device" instead of Share sends nothing anywhere; it copies the same unencrypted backup ZIP into your phone's Downloads folder, where other apps on your phone can read it, so treat that file like any personal data.

Data Retention & Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control. You can delete individual catch entries within the app, or uninstall the app to remove all data entirely. The app opts out of Android's cloud backup, so no copy is kept anywhere else. Backups you chose to save to your phone's Downloads folder, and anything you shared, are outside the app and stay until you delete them.

Children's Privacy

Elevated Fishing does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. See our Terms & Conditions for the minimum age to use the app.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Since we have no way to contact users (no accounts or emails), we encourage you to review this page periodically.
